Tech Support: Sound/Audio Trouble in Mac

October 29th, 2008

If you are having audio/sound issues, please take the following steps before submitting a help request or bug report.

Quite often, sound/audio issues can be corrected by adjusting settings on your computer. Have you checked to make sure that you’re configured properly?

  1. Go to System Preferences

  2. Select Sound
    1. Under Output:

      • Make sure the proper speakers are selected

      • Check to ensure volume is adjusted properly
    1. Under Input:

      • Make sure the proper microphone is selected

      • Test your microphone volume by speaking into the mic and ensuring that the level meter peaks at a 75% volume level

If these steps do not help you, please provide specific details as to what issues you are having with sound, including going to http://www.testyourvoip.com/ and providing the results of that test, in a detailed technical help request.
