Rant time folks.

Have you ever noticed in your pug heroics/raids that there's usually some genius with little to no proper enchants/gems? I do. And you know the typical reply whenever you call them out on it?

"i dont have gold"

That's a pity. Real shame, that. And of course, what role is this type of hotshot? DPS, obviously.
( http://www.loverp.com 10000g=10EUR)

So this is where I go nuts.

Armory me. Look at my gear. I hit 80 two days ago and I'm already in nearly full epics, all gemmed and enchanted. I farmed my ass off. I put in this thing called effort and I'm already in naxx 25. So explain to me, why I, a HEALER, can do this yet DPS, the role designed for killing things, cannot obtain a couple hundred gold for enchants?

Let me introduce you to a little concept called priority. This is where you organize your goals and actions into a certain order of process depending on the severity/need of said activities. Stay with me here, it works like this:

You are a DPS in gear with no gems and no enchants. You have two courses of action:
A) Do dailies and quests to get gold
B) pug raids and be mediocre

If you're prioritizing, which should be performed first, A or B? If you said B, try again.
You see? Simple concept. Embarrassingly simple, in fact. So... why am I still seeing DPS in my groups with NOTHING IN THEIR GEAR? /fume

http://www.loverp.com for you service

anison on How to Grind World of Warcraft Gold with Your Warlock

Warlocks are great grinders and unlike most classes, almost all warlocks speccs work well for gold grinding. However, the grind style will be heavily affected by your talent build and some will be more effective than others.

There are some tips on your talent build, grinding gear and some of the best warlock grinding areas.

Warlock World of Warcraft Gold Making Guide – Talent Build

Affliction Warlock Gold Grinding Talents
Improved Corruption (5/5) – DoTing will play a major role in your WoW gold grinding technique as a warlock, and corruption will be a base spell to use. It's important to get the instant corruption, so you can DoT several targets while on the move. Take note that Seed of Corruption replaces Corruption on a mob, if you intend to use the first.

Soul Siphon (2/2) – Improved Life Drain and Mana Drain are crucial for a grinding spec, as they greatly reduce downtimes when used properly. A few points in Fel Concentration won't hurt either, for cases when a mob will slip and start pounding on you.

Improved Curse of Agony (2/2) – Same as with Corruption, CoE will be a base DoT that you'll be handing out indiscriminately to the mobs you're hunting. The 5% damage is worth the 2 points in the long run. However, you should only use it if you're also getting Amplify Curse as well.

Empowered Corruption (3/3) – The boost your Corruption DoT gets from this talent makes it very potent when gold grinding.(http://www.loverp.com 10000g=10eur)

Nightfall (2/2) – Not essential, but seriously, how can you go that high in Affliction and not take it as a gold grinding talent? You'll be casting Corruptions left and right and the free shadow bolt you might get from Nightfall will speed up the grind process and save you some mana regen downtime.

Shadow Mastery (5/5) – When having Curse of Agony, Corruption and Unstable Affliction on 6 mobs while gold grinding, the extra 10% damage from Shadow Mastery is imba.

Dark Pact (1/1) – One of the best grinding talents for a warlock, it can turn your pet into a walking mana battery that you can use to recharge for very low downtimes. Best used with a pet that is not so mana intensive, such as an imp.

Improved Howl of Terror (2/2) – With no points or 1/2 points spent in this, Howl of Terror is useless. Making it instant however, gives you the best gold grinding CC you'll get your hands on. Just DoT 5-6 mobs with everything you've got and when they get close AOE fear them, then start picking them off one by one when they're running in fear. Rinse, repeat.

Unstable Affliction (1/1) – Unfortunately grind mobs don't dispel themselves, but this is still a good extra DoT that works well with Curse of Agony and Corruption. You're up here for Instant Howl of Terror, but 1 more point for an extra DoT is awesome.

Demonology Warlock Gold Grinding Talents
Demonic Embrace (5/5) – Stamina is crucial when gold grinding and even more so for Warlocks, so the Demonic Embrace talent should be maxxed out, even if your main spec isn't Demo. The reduced spirit won't be that much of a problem, although it might make downtimes slightly longer.

Fel Stamina (3/3) – If you gold grind using Seed of Corruption, your Voidwalker will need to be able to take some hits before he goes home in Shadowland. Same story if you're grinding with the Felguard.

Demonic Embrace (1/1) – I wouldn't use this with affliction for the 15% Shadow damage, simply because you're more reliant on your pet as affliction, than destruction. A burst damage and crit based destruction spec will benefit greatly from the Imp sacrifice and the 15% +fire damage it gives you. Or, if you grind using Improved Shadowbolt and Bane, sacrifice your Succubus for the shadow damage boost.

Master Demonologist (5/5) – Great to use with Seed of Corruption grinding to make your Voidwalker last as long as needed. If you're not using this technique, you can pretty much live without this.

Soul Link (1/1) – Good talent for AoE grinding to save your behind when you're getting overwhelmed. The increased damage will help you take the threat off your back fast. Good to use with Felguard.

Summon Felguard (1/1) – Useful with some gold grinding techniques, but situational. If you're going to grind with a fully buffed (talent wise) Felguard, this talent is worth taking, otherwise there are more useful things to go for since you'll be using another pet, or sacrificing it.

Destruction Warlock Gold Grinding Talents
Aftermath (5/5) – Good for AoE gold grinding with Rain of Fire or Shadowfury. Combined with Pyroclasm it's even more effective.

Intensity (2/2) – Useful for AoE gold grinding, if a mob escapes and keeps chewing you off, bugging you from raining fire on the other mobs.

Pyroclasm (2/2) – Good to use in combination with Aftermath for AoE grinding.

Ruin (1/1) – The double spell crit damage is awesome if you have good crit chance gear and talents and if you're grinding single targets.

Emberstone (5/5) – The destruction spec's equivalent to Affliction's Shadow Mastery. Worth taking if you're AoE grinding or single-target grinding using Immolate, Incinerate and Searing Pain.

Shadowfury (1/1) – One of the best warlock gold grinding talents, Shadowfury is used best in Seed of Corruption grinding techniques and AoE grinding.

Warlock World of Warcraft Gold Making Guide – Gear

The gear you equip on your lock prior to starting your gold grinding session should be consistent with your spec and the type of grind you're about to do. For AoE Rain of Fire/Shadowfury grinding, get as much +Fire and +crit chance gear on.

Multi-DoT grinding techniques based on Affliction talent builds should be combined with gear full of +Shadow damage or simply +spell damage. Seed of Corruption grinding should be combined with the highest possible +spell damage gear you have.

As a general note, Stamina becomes extremely important for a gold grinding warlock and you should not gimp it in front of spell damage too much. If possible, try to get some PVP gear, since they combine high stamina with good spell damage (don't take the items with resilience though, they're useless in gold grinding). Don't lose all your Intellect gear either, especially if you're AoE grinding, since it's very heavy on your mana and you need a bigger pool if you want to handle several mobs.

Warlock World of Warcraft Gold Making Guide – Grind Tactics

One obvious tip for warlock gold grinding is not to grind on mobs that are resistant to your main damage spells. If your destruction specced, you really shouldn't grind the Elemental Plateau in Nagrand for Motes of Fire. And if you're Affliction specced, or use Shadowbolts as your main damage source, you'll have a hard time around Netherstorm, where most mobs are resistant to shadow spells (except the blood elves). Here are some warlock gold grinding tactics that I used successfully:

Seed of Corruption Gold Grinding Technique
Before explaining how this works, let me tell you how Seed of Corruption works in the first place: what it does is it “infects” a target with a demon seed that works like a DoT, causing 1044 damage over 18 seconds. When the 1044 damage threshold is reached or the target holding it dies, the seed blows up and inflicts 1200ish damage to all enemies around the seeded target, in a 15 yard range.

The technique works like this: you send in your voidwalker (or if you're grinding with a warrior or druid, let them gather up several mobs in the same spot) and let him tank a bit. Use seed of corruption ASAP on all of the mobs your Voidwalker has gathered. Note: seed the target that is being tanked last, since the tank might damage the target and reach the 1044 threshold faster than you can cast the seed on all the mobs. Once you get the seeds on all mobs and one of them blows, it's like a chain reaction that will quickly wipe the entire mob group.

If you get a frost mage to help you out, you can turn the Seed of Corruption technique into one of the most impressive gold grinding tactics in the game. Tell the mage to gather up as many mobs as possible, blinking out of danger, or rounding them up while mounted. When they're gathered up, the mage should use Frost Nova to keep them at bay, while you cast Seed of Corruption on all of them. If the Frost Nova breaks, the mage should Ice Block and wait for the mobs to gather around again, then Nova + Blink out of their reach. When all the seeds are placed, you can AoE down on them and the mage can cast Blizzard to help out. When the first seed breaks out, they'll be like firecrackers on the 4th of July!

Single Target Burst Damage Gold Grinding Technique
This is one of the grinding tactics used by burst damage and crit based Destruction warlocks. It works with harder targets, such as elites (some of them) or higher level mobs if you're not 70 yet. Just send in your Voidwalker, allow him to get some aggro, then do Soul Fire, Immolate, DoTs, Searing Pain, Conflagrate and Shadowburn. Your Voidwalker will lose aggro but by the time the mob gets to you, he should already be close to death.

Rain of Fire/Shadowfury AoE Gold Grinding Technique
+Fire gear and the “daze” talents in the Destruction tree help with this AoE grinding technique. Send in your Voidwalker first and let him gather up all the mobs you want to AoE. Get maximum range and cast Rain of Fire. If all the mobs get stunned, go for another Rain of Fire, otherwise use Shadowfury to keep them in place. Get max range again, Rain of Fire again and so forth. This technique requires some getting used to, so I suggest you try it out on lower level mobs at first.

Pairing with a warrior to keep the mobs on him is a good choice, although a frost mage that can Frost Nova and help AoE with Blizzard is also a good gold grinding pair.

Multi-DoT Gold Grinding Technique
This tactic goes best with an affliction warlock armed with the full arsenal of DoT's, including Unstable Affliction. Since you're that high in Aflliction, you'll have to take Improved Howl of Terror and this grind tactic becomes something like the main grinding technique of priests:

DoT all 4-5 mobs you've gathered with everything you have and when they get close to you, use Howl of Terror to send them fleeing. Then chose a target and start nuking it down…when it's dead, pass on to the next target and so forth. If needed, renew DoTs. You can also use your Death Coil and Fear if you're overwhelmed, but if you play this right they shouldn't be crucial.

Priest World of Warcraft Gold Making Guide – Talent Build

If you’re going for a shadow build, regardless of which one you choose, if you want to have an easy time grinding for World of Warcraft gold you need the following talents:

Shadowform – Well this is pretty obvious, the extra damage will come in extremely handy as well as the resistance to physical damage. It’s also a prerequisite for Vampiric Touch. Vampiric Embrace and Vampiric Touch – they will greatly reduce your downtimes between battles and can save your life when you’re being mob-ganked with low mana. Improved Psychic Scream – Those 2 points spent in this talent will prove quite valuable, since your “Fear” is your main Crowd Control option and you can use it to grind several mobs at a time more efficiently. Improved Shadow Word Pain - If you want to mass grind and not single-target your enemies each time, Improved Shadow Word Pain and the two extra ticks it brings comes in very handy. Just gather up 4-5 mobs, Shadow Word: Pain them, Fear them and select a single target to nuke, then rinse and repeat.

Other useful talents include:

Silence – Your secondary Crowd Control spell, has limited use but can be very effective when you’re grinding for World of Warcraft gold in some areas that feature caster mobs. Inner Focus – This discipline spell is handy, although not essential when grinding, but it’s so low in the discipline tree that it’s almost a shame not to get it (since you’ll probably need Improved Fortitude and Improved Power Word Shield in your spec anyway, so Inner Focus is just 1 point away).

Priest World of Warcraft Gold Making Guide – Gear
When you’re off to grind World of Warcraft gold with your priest, put on the best damage gear you have but don’t cut down on your stats too hard if you have a choice. There’s an exception though. Usually, spirit is the most important stat for priests, but for WoW gold grinders it’s actually not that important, since I’m assuming you’re stacked up on Mage water or inn water.

But Intellect and Stamina are quite important as well, since the first will determine the “depth” of your mana pool and your critical hit chance, whereas Stamina will give you a higher health pool that can keep you alive in some intense grinding situations. The equation is like this when grinding for World of Warcraft gold as a priest: spell damage > intellect > stamina > spirit. Why intellect over stamina? Because a priest’s life is his mana pool and whereas you can survive with low HP but a lot of mana, you won’t be able to do so if you have full HP but no mana.

Priest World of Warcraft Gold Making Guide – Grind Areas
As a general tip, avoid areas where mobs are resistant or even immune to shadow damage. Unfortunately, several good grinding spots have mobs that have a higher resistance to shadow, which makes priests less good at grinding WoW gold from those places when compared to other classes. Here are a couple of good grind areas for priests:

Nagrand – Elemental Plateau (Motes of Air, Fire, Earth and Water) – although it’s sometimes crowded here, this is one of the best grinding spots for priests in the game. Whereas a mage will have difficulties tackling the fire or water elementals in the area, a shadow priest will be able to blast in. Gather up several Elementals, use Shadow Word Pain on each, fear them and then start blasting them into oblivion. Rinse, repeat. The rough 33% chance of mote drop from these guys means that your pockets will be dangling with World of Warcraft gold in no time.

Netherstorm – Kirin’Var Village (Motes of Mana) – this area is a bit harder to grind for a priest, due to the fact that mobs spawn fast and you’ll often be interrupted from drinking. However, with the motes of mana being some of the most expensive in the AH (an average is around 2 World of Warcraft gold per mote) and with the mobs dropping them being easy to kill, it’s worth the nuisance. Just watch out for gankers if you’re on a PVP server.

Zangarmarsh – The Dead Mire (Motes of Life) – Although motes of life are not as expensive as motes of fire, air or mana, they’re very easy to get in the Dead Mire, since the mobs there are low level and are not very dangerous (plus you can gather up several of them at the same time). I found it best to AOE grind these guys with a Power Infusion + Holy Nova discipline/holy spec, but gathering them up and DoT-ing should also work. This is definitely one of the easiest sources of World of Warcraft gold you’ll get as a priest.

Priest World of Warcraft Gold Making Guide – Grind Tactics
As a shadow priest, your main World of Warcraft gold grinding technique will be DoT-ing, Crowd Controlling and Blasting. What this means is that you’ll have to gather up several mobs (let’s say around 4-5), put Shadow Word Pain on each of them and then fear. While they are feared, shield yourself and pick a target to blast. When that target is dead, the other 4 mobs will already have suffered some damage from your Shadow Word Pain, making it easier for you to blast the next target and so forth.

If you have a mage buddy, World of Warcraft gold grinding becomes a lot more fun since you can combine AOE if you’re disc/holy spec, you can burn down a target in a few seconds if you’re shadow, or you can simply keep the mage alive while he AOEs 7-8 mobs at a time. At the end, split the WoW gold you earned and the items that dropped and both of you will be happy and rich.

After ten years working outside mesos the studio system, Phillip Noyce could be considered the spy movie director who came in from the cold. In the '90s, the 60-year-old Australian orchestrated the Jack Ryan tales "Patriot Games" and "Clear and Present Danger," but then retreated to his homeland for such indie features as "Rabbit-Proof Fence" and "The Quiet American." "Salt," opening Friday, marks his return to both the big-budget action thriller and to Angelina Jolie, whom he first directed in 1999's "The Bone Collector." YOU ONCE SAID YOU'D HAD ENOUGH OF HOLLYWOOD AND ITS COMPROMISES. WHAT PERSUADED YOU TO RETURN? Phillip Noyce: I made three films in 10 years, and each one of the production processes was followed by a year and half of travel to the four corners of the earth -- enjoyable travel, but nevertheless a lot of effort helping distributors find audiences. After 10 years as a town crier, saying "Please come and see my movie," I really was glad for the prospects of having the colonizing genius of Hollywood doing the town-crying for me. The studio system is such an effective proselytizer. Making films outside the studio system was a different ethos, a different approach to storytelling, a different set of priorities. It was totally invigorating -- working within the studio system can grind you down. I certainly came back feeling like I was 10 years younger, not 10 years older. Sony is a studio which has no fear of age. Martin Campbell, when he was in his mid-60s, directed a worldwide hit like "Casino Royale" with the vigor and passion of a seemingly much younger director. When we were discussing crew members, I mentioned one potential person and said, "But he's not young." I was very relieved when (Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman) Amy (Pascal) said, "We don't mind experience here." Which was really pleasant to hear and affirming, that because you'd been around the block once or twice you might be considered an asset. WHY THIS PARTICULAR MOVIE? Noyce: The hook is so compelling, the idea of a woman being accused of something that forces her to go on the run and examine her own identity. EXCEPT THE MAIN CHARACTER WAS WRITTEN AS A MAN WHEN YOU FIRST DISCUSSED IT. Noyce: I came in and spoke to (Columbia president) Matt Tolmach and Amy sometime in 2007. And it was a year later that they contacted me again to continue the conversation. Tom Cruise was considering the role, but eventually it was too close to ("Mission: Impossible's") Ethan Hunt. That's when Amy made what at first seemed the outrageous suggestion that we should offer it to Angelina. It didn't take long to figure out that was an inspired idea: All the relationships and encounters within the movie were only going to be richer if the character were played by a woman and that woman was Angelina Jolie, bringing her extreme athleticism and her acute dramatist's skill as an actress. So (producer) Lorenzo di Bonaventura, (writer) Kurt Wimmer and I went over to France and spent about a week with Angie discussing the possibilities. We laid out the framework for the kind of movie we wanted to make. IN THE FINISHED FILM, SALT HAS A HUSBAND. WAS THAT THE ONLY OTHER SEX CHANGE INVOLVED IN RE-WORKING THE SCRIPT? Noyce: In the original script, the last act was devoted to Edward A. Salt rescuing his wife and child from a coalition of bad guys. That seemed to be an utterly conventional third act and also predictable for the audience. Our first ground rule was that from any point 10 minutes in, if you asked the audience where this film was going, they would be wrong. We said, let's make a movie that's snakelike, wow gold that keeps weaving and changing and shedding its skin. And let's make a film that's relentless in its entertainment value and its storytelling. SO YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO ALTER ANY OF THE OTHER CHARACTERS? Noyce: No, but every relationship that she has, every encounter has really changed. It's just a different frisson. For example, Salt's boss was always called Ted Winter, but there was a very different camaraderie, a very male-to-male friendship between Edward and Ted than there is between Evelyn and Ted. We cast Liev Schreiber because we were looking for an actor who could bring a lot more emotionality and almost express an unrequited passion for his protege. There's also something delicious about a group of guys chasing a woman who manages to elude them through cunning and brawn. That just tickles everyone's fancy. You don't have to be a feminist to respond to the idea. Hopefully, if this film is successful, Angelina will have opened up a whole new genre, not just expanding the arena for herself, but opening up parts for other women. DO YOU THINK WHAT AUDIENCES EXPECT OUT OF ACTION MOVIES HAS CHANGED MUCH SINCE YOU MADE YOUR JACK RYAN MOVIES? Noyce: You know, I think audience attention spans have changed. The rhythm at which information is processed has sped up. I've had fun, as an audience member, and as a human being, participating in that fractured lifestyle that we all lead now. I think when we started to tell the story, the rhythms and the way the story is presented are entirely different from the last time I was making a spy thriller like this, 10 years ago, which seems like ancient history right now, a very sedate time in human existence, just before broadband came in and our stimulation choices increased seemingly a hundred-fold overnight. The audience is so fast. Their knowledge of cinema grammar is so acute. They are way ahead of you unless you can join in their dance and create a dance they want to follow. So trying to find the rhythm of storytelling was a big part of the exercise of making this film, but also what attracted me to coming back to this grandiloquent arena of the summer studio movie. THE MOVIE LOOKS AS IF YOU CONCENTRATED ON ACTUAL PHYSICAL STUNTWORK, RATHER THAN DOING IT ALL WITH GREEN SCREEN AND DIGITAL EFFECTS. Noyce: I assumed as we scripted the action sequences that we'd use a lot more CGI than we did. I hadn't counted on two things: Angelina and Simon Crane, our stunt coordinator, who she's worked with on many movies over the last ten years. Angie loves heights. She loves danger up to a certain point, because she knows that Simon knows her limits, is an ultimate professional and is very concerned with safety and will always reign her in just short of where it's dangerous. I remember going up on top a building and looking down with Angie and saying, "That's where your character would climb out on the windowsill. We'll shoot a plate here and then do it in the studio. She said, "What do you mean? I want to go out there." I sort of looked at her and thought of the insurance premium and some guy in Culver City (at Sony) hitting the roof. But three weeks later, she was out there on the side of the building. YOU ALSO USE RUSSIAN SPIES, WHO'VE BEEN OUT OF VOGUE SINCE THE END OF THE COLD WAR, AS VILLAINS. Noyce: I'd been interested in the concept of sleeper spies for a long time. I'd read a lot of material about sleeper spies from the second world war on and had been looking for a vehicle that might deal with the subject. The interesting thing about a sleeper spy being what happens if the spy who is sent to a host country actually falls in love with the new buy wow gold lifestyle -- whether it's a totalitarian or a democratic regime. Did I think the idea of Russian spies was an outdated one? No. It was always Russians (in the script). It only took me a couple of weeks research to realize what the FBI had already realized and that's that sleeper spies were not the figment of a Hollywood script writer's imagination. They were really out there. Talking to ex-KGB and talking to ex-CIA, I realized there are not just 11 people in New York City, the 11 who were arrested and exchanged with Russia. If there are 11, there are 1,100, and if there are 1,100 Russians, there are twice as many Americans in other countries. Logic tells us that the human weapon and the potential of the human weapon are so potent. These people are not just going around masquerading as housewives. They are inside the institutions of government. The race among the spy forces is not to get information, but to get that man or woman into a strategic position because that's how future wars, whether they are economic or military, are going to be fought. Through influence. WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN THAT STORY ABOUT THE RUSSIAN SPIES DID SURFACE IN THE NEWS? Noyce: Because the story was circulated by Kurt Wimmer in an e-mail, we thought it was a practical joke at first -- a writer who was trying to set us all up. THEY CERTAINLY DON'T SEEM TO HAVE POSSESSED ALL THE TALENTS SALT DISPLAYS? Noyce: Well, we don't know really. I think they were nabbed before Day X. I'm here to tell you that Day X does exist. Day X is the day designated by Department S of the KGB, the department with the responsibility for training illegals, which is what the Soviets called sleeper spies, deep-cover moles in country. Day X is the day when all the Russian sleeper spies and their allies will rise up and assassinate leaders, destroy institutions and practice biological warfare. That is the official designation of the day the big war begins. I must add that all this conspiracy theory stuff, the fact that this all has a basis in reality is neither here nor there. The reality of it all only produced more fantastic notions to play with. It's the playfulness of the notion that interested me. HOW DO YOU THINK THE MOVIE WILL PLAY IN RUSSIA? Noyce: We want to make sure the Russians don't get paranoid, because the villains aren't the Russians of the present. These people are laboratory experiments created by the KGB. Jeff Davidson (a Sony dubbing consultant who oversees foreign versions of the studio's films) came up with a brilliant idea together with the Russian director of inventing a particular language for the character Orlov, which is sort of like old-school KGB-speak. It should allow Russians to see the story with the same irony as Americans will and will not feel like it's an attack on them. WHY DO YOU KEEP RETURNING TO SPY MOVIES? Noyce: My dad had been a military spy. He worked for Z Special Forces, training operatives to conduct guerrilla warfare, sabotage behind the Japanese lines. So I grew up with very romantic stories of spydom told about a conflict that was righteous that we won. Each film I made seemed to bring out more recollections from my father and only increased my fascination cheap wow gold with spying in general.

In the U.S. we like to trumpet that women mesos now make up half the workforce and are attaining nearly half of law, medical and business degrees. Television producers are picking up on the trend as new shows increasingly focus on professional women with some fairly dazzling careers.
"Women are leading shows now, and the focus is on their interesting careers," says Lizbeth Scordo, Yahoo TV editor. "There's been an influx of high-powered female characters in the last decade."
Whether the genre is comedy, drama or reality, cameras are following women into the workplace, and they're no longer confined to the role of receptionist. (Though it was hard not to love Pam Beasley, long the receptionist from The Office.) Now TV career women are attorneys, surgeons, detectives and business execs.
"They have progressed in terms of job," explains Ann M. Savage, Ph.D., professor of media studies at Butler University in Indianapolis. "We see more women as bosses."
Women are on top in the most recent crop of TV dramas. In legal thriller Damages Glenn Close plays cutthroat litigator Patty Hewes, who ruthlessly ensures her cases' success. Kyra Sedgwick offers a different view of a female boss. Playing Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on crime series The Closer, she brings femininity to the tough, male-dominated field of law enforcement with a sugary wow gold demeanor and Southern belle charm.
To be sure, women are often portrayed in stereotypically feminine jobs on TV too. Desperate Housewives was conceived as a sneak peek into the lives of wives and mothers. On newcomer Men of a Certain Age, women primarily play the roles of spouses and waitresses. And across channels, it's almost always women who play receptionists, maids and nannies, even if only in the background.
While those powerful female characters show viewers that women can achieve career equality, critics say they may also portray some mixed, if reality-based, messages. "No woman [on TV] is just happy with her career," Savage says. "The job always compromises the family."
No-nonsense surgeon Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) on medical drama Grey's Anatomy is characterized as fiercely devoted and capable at work, which leads to her demise at home. After an ultimatum from her husband to spend less time on the job, her marriage dissolves. Similarly, in the kooky world of NBC comedy 30 Rock, Liz Lemon (Tina Fey), the head writer of a fictitious sketch-comedy TV show, must choose between her work life buy wow gold and personal life. She is a single woman closing in on 40 who desperately wants a child and family, which she presumably had to sacrifice to attain her level of career success.
"The perception is that women really can't have it all," says pop-culture expert Al Martin, referencing the quirky lawyer character Ally McBeal, who was haunted by a dancing baby because that's what her life lacked. "TV reinforces the idea that you are a bad woman if you're not a mother or a bad mother if you are working outside the home."
Actress Sarah Drew, who plays surgeon April Kepner on Grey's Anatomy, agrees that working women on TV are often characterized as having dysfunctional personal lives. "I would like to see a character that balances all of these things well," she says. "I'd like to watch a woman have a healthy relationship with her children and spouse, and a rock-star career. I want to find a role model for myself."
Despite the work-life balance issue, Drew believes the portrayal of career women on TV is moving in a positive direction. "I love being on a show where there are so many strong women," she says. "Women are strong and ambitious and in the workforce. The more we show cheap wow gold that, the better."
